Lament as Discipleship
Leader: Pastor Pat Testerman
Class Description: Jesus calls us to walk with Him and with others He brings alongside on a path that often includes suffering. Discipleship and Lament are two gifts He gives us to help us walk that path. This class will be an overview of Pastor Pat's book, Lament as Discipleship, which seeks to help us understand and embrace the relationship between suffering, discipleship, and lament.
Book: Lament as Discipleship: Walking and Crying out to God with One Another By Patrick Testerman. (The book is provided free of charge to participants.)
Homework: about 20 pages of reading per week.
Discipling
Leader: Pastor Don George
Class Description: At FCBC, discipleship is engrained into our culture. The moment one visits our website, they read our local church’s vision: Every Christ-follower a disciple. Every mature Christ-follower a disciple maker.
Legendary NFL head coach Vince Lombardi once opened up training camp with the famous quote, “Gentleman, this is a football.” His goal was to reinforce the basic fundamentals of the game, like blocking, tackling, catching, throwing, etc. Among his audience were seasoned veterans as well as incoming rookies.
Whether you’re a rookie Christ follower, or consider yourself to be a seasoned veteran, it’s healthy to dive into some of the terms we frequently hear and use, and unpack what Jesus commands of his followers, and what we mean in our vision statement.
What does it mean to be a disciple? When would one be considered mature? How does one go about the task of making disciples?
